Harris puts on a brave face after fiancé’s sentencing

The 23-year-old model’s personal life has been tested of late with her fiancé Luke Hunt sentenced to four years in prison for dangerous driving which resulted in the death of 78-year-old Kenneth Lay.

In 2012, Mr Lay died in hospital after the car that Hunt and Harris was travelling in collided with the older man’s car, which then crashed into a tree.

Hunt, 28, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death, and the court heard he was speeding in the 60km/h zone, driving at 95km/h.

While speaking about the verdict Harris told The Daily Telegraph she was “beyond devastated” over the jailing of her fiancé.

“It has been an incredibly traumatic couple of years,” said Harris.

“I am beyond devastated with what has happened and for the Lay family. It is still so raw, having lost my partner. I need time to process and get used to not having him in my life for now.”

The childhood sweethearts have been together for more than six years – and when Judge Colin Charteris asked Mr Hunt why Harris was not present at his sentencing Hunt told the Judge “she is very upset, she can’t handle it nowadays.”

Judge Charteris said the tough sentence would send a strong message about reckless driving.

In the meantime Harris seems to be throwing herself into her work.

At the Polo event the David Jones ambassador sipped champagne and chatted with other well-known faces including fashion blogger Nicole Warne and rubbed shoulders with the Pinctada Hotels and Resorts founder, Marilynne Paspaley.

Hunt will be eligible for parole in 2016.
