Harriet Wran walked free from prison this morning almost two months after she was sentenced over her role in the robbery and murder of a Sydney drug dealer.

The 28-year-old daughter of former NSW Premier Neville Wran was kissed on the forehead by her mother Jill Hickson Wran as she emerged from the gates of Sydney’s Silverwater jail just after 7am on Tuesday morning.

Harriet told a waiting media pack: “I really have just come to implore you to understand that I am still very much in recovery”.

“It’s going to be a long process and it’s going to be hard and I ask you to understand please let me do what I have to do in private,” she said.

Wran has been placed on conditional release that specifies she must abstain from taking or possessing all drugs and alcohol and undergo a prescribed treatment.

Wran has been behind bars for more than two years since she was arrested in August 2014 for the murder of Redfern drug dealer Daniel McNulty.
