ICYMI, today, Wednesday 21st of October, 2015, is Back to the Future Day.
Yep, it’s the very day Doc and Marty travelled to in the future, in a bid to stop Marty’s son going to jail.
And although we still can’t “hydrate” a pizza in under five seconds (shame), or put a self-walking collar on our dog (double shame), there were a few things that Back to the Future II got right. Well, kind of…
The technology
Sure, it doesn’t really look the same, but the ideas are all there. We watch giant screens and 3D movies; we play wireless video games and make video calls. Our smartphones are permanently attached to our thumbs – and speaking of! We unlock them with our fingerprints. Spooky.
Self-lacing sneakers
Wouldn’t this defuse an early morning fight or five? It has been reported that Nike is gearing up to release a version of the self-lacing kicks seen in the movie. All you need to do is push a button in the midsole of the shoe, and hey presto! Your kicks are laced.
Hoverboards!
Much to the delight of every kid (and big kid) among us, Lexus is well on its way to manufacturing a bona fide hoverboard! It appears to smoke a little, but hey, it’s a small price to pay for travelling future styles.
One thing BTTFII didn’t predict, though…
