A vigilante (of sorts) is spraying explicit artwork next to Sydney’s potholes.
Penises have popped up next to the potholes, some with messages they hope will prompt the council into action.
The latest phallus to mysteriously appear was in Redfern on the corner of Redfern and George streets.
Redfern local Stewart Lattore spotted the graffiti, noting it was a very Aussie solution to news.com.au. “Yes it’s crude, but I think it sits perfectly in the long and healthy Aussie tradition of disrespecting authority — It’s also quite funny,” he said.
Twitter users even began calling the graffiti artist “W*nksy” after British graffiti artist Banksy.
The council were asked about the potholes by news.com.au but refused to say whether it forced them to repair roads more swiftly.
“The graffiti in Redfern has been removed. The photo shows that the pothole had already been filled in and made safe with temporary asphalt,” a City spokesman said.
“Urgent potholes are repaired¬ within 48 hours of being identified or reported. The City works to ensure all graffiti is removed as quickly as possible.”
