Search engine Google has released the top searches for 2015 – and results are intriguing, with women in the creative professions taking many of the top spots.
Australian Ruby Rose was the No.1 searched actress in the world, knocking off even Amy Schumer.
She responded on Twitter, saying: ‘Awesome.’
The top searched actor was Charlie Sheen, who revealed this year that he was HIV-positive.
The most searched athlete was fighter Ronda Rousey who ironically beat Holly Holm in the searches, if not in the Melbourne championship fight.
The attacks on Paris were the most searched news event, but the execution of two of the Bali Nine came a very close second.
The results are, of course, skewed toward English-speaking, Western countries, where Google is most popular.
The biggest ‘How To?’ question was Tie a Tie, followed by Make a Pancake, both excellent questions.
In the normally profound ‘What is?’ section, ‘What is Netflix?’ beat out ‘What is Love?’
Hilariously, ‘Who is the Australian Prime Minister?’ was the seventh most asked question even in the US, and it’s not a bad one, considering how often it changes.
Who is the Australian PM came ahead of ‘Who is Banksy?’ and just behind ‘Who is The Richest Person in the World?’ (clue: it’s not Malcolm Turnbull.)
The most searched term in Australia in December was of course Star Wars, with the latest installment of the legendary franchise hitting cinemas today.
Elizabeth II, who became the longest reigning British monarch, was in the top five for the year, while the birth of Duchess Catherine’s baby Princess Charlotte made the top 10.
Other things people really wanted to know: ‘how many calories in a Starbucks flat white?’, ‘What to wear on the first day of school’ (not a problem in most Australian schools, where the answer will be: your uniform) and ‘how to use Snapchat’.
Adele was the top searched music artist, with Australia’s Sia a close second; while Donald Trump was the most searched politician.
Jarryd Hayne was the No.1 searched Australian by Australians, followed closely by the new Prime Minister, and then Ivan Milat.
