Gold Coast mum charged after leaving her child in a hot car to buy cigarettes and visit a doctor

In breaking news out of Queensland, a mother is said to have been charged with leaving her child in a hot car while she visited a doctor, as well as buying a packet of cigarettes at the Gold Coastโ€™s Southport Australia Fair shopping centre.

According to 9 News, at 12pm yesterday afternoon, a shopper noticed a distressed boy inside the womanโ€™s car. Emergency services were called and then smashed one of the windows of the vehicle, freeing the 18-month-old boy from the heat.

The boy was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital where he was deemed to be dehydrated and in a stable condition.

9 News also report that the 28-year-old mother did return to the car, but arrived another half an hour after her son was freed from the car where she was met by waiting authorities.

The woman was charged with leaving a child unattended and is expected to face Southport Court at a later date.

This comes just one month after a Sydney father faced court after leaving his three-year-old son in a hot car while he went to the pub.

As previously reported by Now To Love, the man in his forties was โ€œterribly sorryโ€ for what he had done, cutting that he planned on being a โ€œbetter fatherโ€ following his crime.

In the past, police have warned that on a typical summerโ€™s day in New South Wales, temperatures inside a vehicle can reach between 50 and 60หšC โ€“ thatโ€™s even when the windows are rolled down.

The take-home message? NEVER leave children in a hot car. Not to duck into the shops, not to go to the pubโ€ฆ NEVER.
