On February 6th, 20-year-old Kaylee Muthart scratched out her own eyes while high on drugs as “a sacrifice to God”.

See Kaylee telling her story in the video at the end of post.

Kaylee was out the front of a church when she was hit by what doctors suspect was tainted meth, believing the world was “upside-down” and that she needed to “sacrifice her eyes” to God.

People from inside the church came out to help when they heard the 20-year-old yelling, and found her holding one eyeball in her hands – before police could make it to the scene, Kaylee managed to rip out the other eye leaving her permanently blind.

She was taken to a hospital and physically is recovering well, though it’s the mental wounds Kaylee is having trouble getting past.

“She is trying so hard to get her thoughts back together, but unfortunately when she was under the influence of methamphetamine, pure evil, she saw things she cannot unsee,” said Kaylee’s mother, Katy Tompkins.

“They are still in her memories. She doesn’t want them to be but she is trying her best to work through it. Thankfully, as time progresses, with much support and her therapy, we can help her to understand that things that she was seeing and thinking at that time, were not true or real.”

Nine days ago Kaylee returned home and her mother admits caring for her daughter has been “a lot of work.”

“It’s a huge adjustment for all of us,” she said.

Kaylee’s Mum has set up a GoFundMe page to help raise (US) $50,000 for a service dog and to help with medical bills.

“As we prepare for the long road to getting her situated in her new life we are asking for your help,” the page explains.

“The sooner we can provide Kaylee with a service dog, the sooner we can help her get back on her feet.”

Kaylee’s family are using her story to warn others of the dangers of drugs.

The young woman smoked meth for the first time accidentally last year, when it was unknowingly laced in with the marijuana she was smoking. She moved out of the family home and started buying

methamphetamine.

“If Kaylee’s story can help just one person, something good can come of this tragedy in our family,” her mother shares on the GoFundMe page.

The family are using their faith and concentrating on the Bible to help them all heal.

Kaylee has also spoken out about the ordeal, which you can see in the video below.
