Katie Rough was walking through a field on her way home from school in York, UK when she was brutally attacked with a Stanley Knife. She was found bleeding to death at the scene by police, her throat slit and severe stab wounds to her chest, and taken to hospital but died a short time later. Bizarrely, the killer called to report Katie’s death and whereabouts, allege Police.
Upon hearing the horrific news, witnesses say her mother Alison dropped to her news and screamed “no, no, my little girl”, report The Sun. Katie, her only child, had been bridesmaid in her wedding just two weeks prior.
Police charged a 15-year-old girl with murder and possession of an offensive weapon. She has faced a magistrate and been remanded into youth custody. It is understood she was being treated for mental health problems. She will face Leeds Crown Court later this week.
The tight-knit community has been rocked by the tragedy and flowers tributes now mark the spot where little Katie spent her final moments. Among them one for her grandparents, the card simply reading: “Night night my darling Princess Katie love nana and grandad xx”.
