Frank Lowy has undergone brain surgery months after falling from a soccer podium.
The 84-year-old billionaire has had surgery for a subdural haematoma in Europe after feeling unwell during the holiday.
While it has been months since the Westfield founder took a public fall at the A-League soccer grandfinal when awarding Melbourne Victory with the championship trophy, Westfield have released a statement saying Lowy is likely to have originally sustained the injury during the fall.
The shopping centre magnate underwent surgery last week and is now out of hospital expected to fully recover, reports AAP.
Lowy, who is also Chairman of the Football Federation of Australia, completed the awards ceremony at AAMI Park in May after falling onto the oval from the podium.
He stumbled as he went to award Melbourne Victory coach with the championship trophy.
The 84-year-old magnate was treated and cleared of any serious injury at the time, with the Football Federation of Australia releasing a statement saying “he has soreness in his shoulder from the fall, but is otherwise OK.’’
Lowy, who is one of Australia’s richest men, will return to Australia once he has fully recovered.
