Ex Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson has come under fire online after being accused of posting a homophobic tweet.
The 55-year-old tweeted a picture yesterday afternoon of Richard Hammond and himself outside the Margaret River Fudge Factory in Western Australia paired with the caption: “We have got jobs at last. Here. As packers.”
Many Twitter users accused the former Top Gear host of alluding to a common slur describing gay men with one user tweeting “stop trying to be controversial to stay relevant”.
A spokesperson for Stonewall, a gay rights charity told the Mail Online all they can see Clarkson “packing up at the moment is his career”.
“We can’t quite see Clarkson in the confectionery industry, maybe it’s the sour taste that his racist and homophobic slurs leave.”
Clarkson was sacked from Top Gear earlier this year after punching a BBC producer in the face, reportedly over dinner.
It’s not the first time the 55-year-old has caused online controversy and offending the gay community.
Last year Clarkson tweeted a picture of himself asleep on a plane with someone holding a handwritten sign above him with the words “gay c—t”.
He later deleted the tweet and apologised.
Clarkson and Hammond are currently travelling with James May on their Clarkson, Hammond & May Live Tour which was formerly called Top Gear Live.
Hammond and May worked with Clarkson on Top Gear but left the program not long after Clarkson was sacked.
