Yesterday, news of young Adelaide woman Cassie Sainsbury’s Colombian arrest made headlines worldwide.
Now pictures have emerged of the 22-year-old standing next to the 18 bags of cocaine found concealed within headphones in her luggage.
Cassie was arrested after the drugs were discovered as she tried to fly home to Australia on April 11 from El Dorado International Airport.
Both Cassie and her family maintain her innocence and say she’s been set up. She alleges she bought the headphones for her bridal party. Cassie was planning a wedding next February to her fiancé Scott Broadbridge, 23.
Scott has now also spoken out about his fiancée’s arrest, claiming she’s not a personal trainer, as was widely reported, and asking people not to be so “negative” about his wife-to-be.
Cassie is currently being held in notoriously overcrowded El Buen Pastor Prison which is home to more than 50,000 criminals.
7 News reports Cassie’s Australian lawyers have advised her family not to make any more public comments about her situation, fearing this could make her a target. They’ve already set up a fundraising page which at time of publishing has raised over $4,000.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) confirmed it was providing assistance to Cassie and her family.
