The former fiancé of convicted killer Steven Avery believes that he is guilty of murder.
Jodi Stachowski, who stars in the 10-part, true-crime series, Making a Murderer, that everyone is talking about, has told a US talk show that Steven is definitely capable of the heinous crime of which he was convicted.
Avery is serving a life term for the murder of a young female photographer, Teresa Halbach, who went to his car yard to photograph cars for a car sales magazine.
He had only recently been released from prison after serving 18 years for a rape he did not commit, and he was in the process of suing local lawmakers for tens of millions of dollars when he was arrested.
The 10-part series about the case is the breakout hit of the year, with more social media traction than even Game of Thrones.
At the time of his arrest, Steven was engaged to marry Jodi Stachowski, who appeared to be quite supportive of him. Now she says her ex-fiance was a “monster”, claiming he threatened to kill her unless she made “him look good” in the program.
“He would beat me all the time, punch me, throw me against the wall,” she told the HLN news network. “I ate two boxes of rat poison just so I could go the hospital and get away from him.”
Avery launched an appeal against his conviction just two days ago.
Steven’s nephew, Brendan Dassey, who was just sixteen at the time of the killing, was convicted after he confessed to being an accomplice, then retracted his confession.
Jodi says that Avery wanted revenge against women because he was sent to prison for almost two decades for a rape he did not commit, after the victim picked him out of a line-up.
