Donald Cline, 77, allegedly used his own sperm instead of that of donors during his career as a fertility doctor. The retired medic has pleaded not guilty to two felony obstruction of justice charges.
Cline was believed to have lied about using donor sperm to help his patients on 50 occasions, instead using his own DNA. He’s been accused of being the biological father to at least eight children in the small US town of Zionsville.
In the ’70s, he told his patients that they were receiving sperm from medical students or dental residents. His alleged crimes have only recently come to light after one of his illegitimate children traced their genealogy using a private agency and discovered they were related to at least eight other people in the company’s database.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the disgraced doctor “said he used his own sperm whenever he didn’t have a donor sample available”.
WWTV reports that Cline “felt that he was helping women because they really wanted a baby”.
“It is very sickening to think he ran his practice up until the time he was about 70,” said one of his unidentified donor kids.
Cline has “emphatically” denied the claims when the investigations into his case began.
