Father’s final words with daughter as she’s shot over the phone

"Every few minutes she said, ‘My head hurts.’”

A grieving father heard the exact moment his 25-year-old daughter was fatally wounded by a stray bullet while he was talking to her on the phone.

The man, David O’Connor, was talking to Aaren on the phone when she was sitting in her car outside her home in Chicago on Friday night. She had unknowingly and accidentally been shot during a gun battle between two gangs.

Telling CBS Chicago, O’Connor said: “I didn’t realise at the time but I was having the last conversation with my daughter. Every few minutes she said, ‘My head hurts.’”

He ended the call feeling that something was wrong. He then made a call to her boyfriend who immediately contacted Aaren’s housemate. When she went to check on her, she found her unresponsive and with a bullet wound in the head. She was rushed to hospital but tragically died on Sunday.

“I would have loved to have told her one more time I loved her and I was proud of her,” O’Connor said. “She was an amazing girl.”

As of Wednesday afternoon, Chicago police reported that no-one is in custody for the crime.

A fund has been set up in her name at GoFundMe to raise money to help at-risk youth in Chicago and to fund a scholarship in her memory. It’s currently sitting at more than $30,000.
