A distraught father called 911, pleading for emergency workers to rush to his home after he mistook his 14-year-old son for an intruder and shot him dead.
“I just shot my son by accident,” he told 911 operators, 9News reports.
“Oh God. Get here quick. Please hurry.”
The 72-year-old man believed his son was at school after dropping him off earlier that day.
However, he fatally shot him in the neck after hearing a noise in the basement, thinking he was an intruder.
The Cincinnati father has not been charged over the incident.
Cincinnati Police Chief Eliot Isaac has described the death as a “terrible, terrible tragedy.”
