Family urge Facebook to remove photos of daughter’s murderer

While this is an issue on Hollie's account, I am sure that we are not the only ones in this situation and there will be many more going forward.

A family is Britain is urging Facebook to remove nine photographs that show their daughter with the ex-boyfriend who stabbed her to death.

Hollie Gazzard was murdered by Asher Maslin in February 2014. In accordance with company policy, Facebook froze her profile to memorialize her, as it does with users when they die.

But her family is upset because Hollie’s profile include photographs of Hollie in loving poses with Asher before he murdered her.

Hollie’s father Nick Gazzard says the images are “distressing.”

The BBC quotes a Facebook spokesman saying: “We understand in tragic cases such as this it may mean there are sometimes painful reminders, but memorialized accounts are designed to preserve the privacy of the deceased.”

Mr Gazzard has started an online petition at Change.org to remove the images.

“While this is an issue on Hollie’s account, I am sure that we are not the only ones in this situation and there will be many more going forward,” he said.
