This is too sad for words.
A GoFundMe page for the man who lost his partner, son and daughter in the terrible accident in the Tweed River has raised thousands in a matter of hours.
Donations have been pouring in for Matt Kabealo, a chef at the Kingscliff Bowling Club, after the Club Managers’ Association of Australia (CMAA) started the fundraising page to help “one of our own”.
Stephanie King, 43, Jacob Kabealo, 7, and Ella-Jane Kabealo, 11, died after their car plunged into the flooded Tweed River in the aftermath of Cyclone Debbie.
8-year-old Chloe-May Kabealo miraculously managed to escape the car and raise the alarm.
Tragically, emergency services were unable to get to the car and NSW Police have confirmed the bodies of the three have been found in the submerged vehicle.
Nine News reported Matt was understandably “beside himself”.
The CMAA’s GoFundMe page has raised over $13,000 at time of publishing. It’s also worth noting at time of publishing, the page has only been live for 4 hours.
The fundraising page reads: “The funds raised through your kind donations will help Matt cope financially and emotionally with this devastating event in the short term and help him and his surviving daughter rebuild their lives.”
And it’s clear people want to do anything they can to help.
Our deepest condolences to Matt and Chloe-May at this absolutely devastating time.
