More unpopular than 7 of his predecessors.

It’s no secret Donald Trump has been the most controversial presidential choice in recent times, dividing the American public and winning the US election with a historically low approval rating of 38 per cent.

With his inauguration looming, this rating his dipped even more and as it stands he is the most unpopular newly election president in the last 40 years, a ABC News/Washington Post poll finds. That’s seven of his predecessors.

A string of recent popularity polls confirm these findings.

A survey by Gallop found he’ll take the role as President with a favourable rating of just 40 per cent, trialling vastly behind George W. Bush at 62 per cent and Barack Obama with 78 per cent.

Trump has once again slammed the media and suggested the same outlets who underestimated him in the lead-up to the election are still doing so.

However, regardless of how divided the population is on their newly elected President and how many polls are conducted, Trump will be sworn into office on January 20, US time.
