Donald Trump appoints an anti-vaxxer to review a commission into vaccine safety

Wait... what?

The President-elect has made yet another questionable choice on behalf of the American people, allegedly naming Robert F. Kennedy Jr. – a man who’s openly criticised the vaccination of children – to chair a commission dedicated to upholding vaccine safety.

Yes, this is a decision that makes as much as sense as Donald Trump calling 30-time-Golden-Globe-nominated actress Meryl Streep “overrated”.

Meeting with anti-vaccine activist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on January 10, Donald Trump is said to have asked the Democrat to lead a committee dedicated to reviewing vaccination safety and science in the U.S.

While he may deny this claim, this still raises serious concern for what the future of Trump’s reign might mean for the rest of the free world.

“President-elect Trump has some doubts about the current vaccine policy, and he has questions about it,” Kennedy Jr. suggests.

“He asked me to chair a commission on vaccine safety and scientific integrity. I said I would.”

“Everybody ought to be able to be assured that the vaccines that we have – he’s very pro-vaccine, as am I – but they’re as safe as they possibly can be.”

Interestingly, Kennedy Jr. stresses that he is “pro-vaccine”, however, according to NBC News, last year, Kennedy Jr. publicly slammed the practice of immunisation, arguing that the U.S. are now left with a “holocaust” of children hurt by vaccinations.

The same goes for Trump, who, in 2012, called for doctors to “stop giving monstrous combined vaccinations” because, as he suggests, vaccinations lead to autism.

It’s been a very busy day for the President-elect; not only were his team put to work shutting down claims that Trump had asked anti-vaxxer Kennedy Jr. to head up his vaccination-safety review, but just hours ago, Trump took to Twitter to defend himself against unverified allegations that Russia have been “cultivating, supporting and assisting” him for years.

The plot of this seemingly made-for-a-Hollywood-blockbuster story continues…
