Italian fashion design powerhouse, Dolce & Gabbana, have dressed everyone from Sophia Loren to Scarlett Johanssen and now they have launched a collection of hijabs and abayas aimed at their Muslim clientele.
One half of the design duo, Stefano Gabbana, revealed the collection by posting images on Instagram reveals Sydney Morning Herald.
The collection consists of headscarves and abayas in neutral coloured lightweight fabrics such as georgette and charmeuse, and are finished with luscious lace trims and gorgeous prints including spots, daisies, lemons and roses.
“I’m really fascinated with the Middle East and we’ve just completed a prêt-a-porter collection of abayas and sheylas,” Stefano told The National at the couture extravaganza in Italy last year.
“Pieces have some lace, embroidery and prints – but not too much.”
The brand is already popular in the Middle East, with 13 stores already operating within the United Arab Emirates.
High-end fashion is booming in the Middle East and Reuters states that Muslim women are expected to spend $US484 billion on shoes and clothing by 2019.
Although the prices of Dolce & Gabbana’s new collection are not yet released, judging by the high cost of their regular pieces D&G will be contributing to that astronomical figure of Middle Eastern sales.
