Freak storm hits desert

Saudi Arabia was transformed by a river of hail

Usually bone-dry Saudi Arabia was transformed by a massive hailstorm recently, as stones the size of golf balls accumulated and formed a raging river through the desert, Yahoo News reports.

Footage of the surreal weather phenomenon was filmed at an unknown location, and shows a man crouched in surprise beside the rushing river of hail.

The ice river comes as extreme weather conditions have battered the country since October 28, when meteorologists predicted a whopping eight years’ worth of rain in just two days, the Mirror reports.

As of October 30, floods have claimed six people in Saudi Arabia, and 19 people across the region, and the intense downpours have caused floods across Iraq and Iran.

The rare weather has sparked ‘apocalyptic’ discussions online, with people claiming this is the sign of end times.
