Daniel Morcombe's killer Brett Peter Cowan has had his murder conviction appeal bid dismissed by High Court.

Daniel Morcombe’s killer Brett Peter Cowan has had his murder conviction appeal bid dismissed by the High Court of Australia.

Cowan killed 13-year-old Daniel in 2003 and after lengthy police investigation and was found guilty of the Sunshine Coast teenager’s murder in 2014 and sentenced to life in prison.

Cowan abducted the teenager while he was waiting for a bus to go to the nearby Sunshine Plaza Shopping Centre to buy Christmas presents for his family on December 7 2003.

Cowan, a convicted child killer and serial paedophile, had his lawyer argue he was unfairly targeted by a police sting operation set up to catch Daniel Morcombe’s killer.

Bruce and Denise Morcombe, Daniel’s parents, were in the front row of the packed court, with lawyer Peter Boyce, for the short hearing, reports the ABC.

Outside court Ms Morcombe spoke of her relief.

“I’m just glad it’s all over now. Now we can get on with our life,” she said.

“We don’t have to look in our diary and look at what’s going to be happening in another court case.

“I’ve got lots of good things to look forward to and this one is finished.

“I don’t have Daniel back but Cowan’s in jail and hopefully I don’t think he’ll ever get out.”

Today’s quashed application was the last avenue of appeal for the murderer who now cannot apply for parole until he has served at least 20 years.
