A father who launched a Facebook appeal to uncover who ran over his toddler son has told of his horror after discovering it was him.
Jamie Ellisom backed over his 15-month-old son AJ on Friday morning and left him badly hurt while reversing out of his driveway in Cheltenham in the UK while taking his daughters to school.
Apparently Mr Ellisom claims he was completely unaware of what he had done saying he did not hear or see the boy or feel a bump as he drove away.
The toddler was discovered by a passer-by lying on the ground following the incident and rushed to a nearby hospital.
The day of the incident Mr Ellisom turned to Facebook to appeal for information about who hit his son:
“I beg anyone who was on Hester’s Way Road between 8:30 and 8:40….doing school runs or catching a bus etc to please call the police and help find who did this to my little man x thank you x.”
But after conducting some initial investigations Gloucestershire Police later announced that they believed AJ had been involved in a collision with a vehicle being driven by his father.
A few hours later Mr Ellisom posted this confession on a link to a local news story about the case:
“Yes it was me ….I just didn’t see him or feel a bump my 2 daughters in the car also didn’t see or hear him…..so imagine how I feel right now to be told that I accidentally ran over my own son……think about that.
“That guilt will be with me forever.”
Shortly after Mr Ellisom posted a Facebook status providing an update about his son’s non-life threatening condition.
He said: “Thank you guys the little man is doing so well ….sat on my lap eating and chatting away……thank you for mot being so quick to judge.
He later added: “Thanks everyone for lovely words…right now hes running around and back to himself…we were very lucky today he has just cuts and bruises but an inch or two the other way could’ve been much worse.
“Thanks again.”
According to UK media reports police are not treating the incident as suspicious and no further action will be taken at this time.
