Teacher removes earrings from schoolgirl’s ear, dad sues

The head teacher physically removed the earrings without her parent’s permission.

John Deeney is one angry dad. He is so angry, in fact, that he has taken his daughters, Alyssa, 6, and Darci, 5, out of school, is threatening to sue said school as well as press charges for “common assault” against a teacher.

This is because a teacher at Partington Central Academy in the UK removed Alyssa’s earrings without parental consent. Darci was reprimanded for wearing earrings that same day.

The two girls have had their ears pierces since they were both one.

Deeney, 31, told the Manchester Evening News that not only should the teachers not touch his children without permission, but they shouldn’t be punished for doing nothing wrong.

“That a headteacher and another member of staff were standing over my daughter taking off her earrings without a call to either parent is unacceptable,” he said.

“They should not be putting their hands on my daughter and I have called police to see if this is assault.”

While The Dean Trust, a governing body that clusters schools within the area, stands by their no-jewellery policy – “this is not at all an unusual situation in schools where we are concentrating on education rather than fashion,” a spokesperson for the Trust asserts – we can’t help but feel that physically removing earrings out of a schoolgirl’s ears without permission is over-stepping the line.
