The products affected are one litre cartons of Coles brand Fresh Hilo Milk, full cream, and Fresh Hilo Milk, 98 per cent fat free.
They were sold in Western Australian branches of the supermarket on or after January 24 and have a use-by date of February 6. The same products with different use-by dates are not affected.
The milk contains coliform bacteria, which is found in human and animal excrement.
“The recall is due to detection of microbial contamination, specifically coliforms, by the manufacturer,’ a Coles statement said.
“Food products contaminated with coliforms may cause illness if consumed. Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.”
Customers who have purchased the contaminated milk are advised to return the products to their local store for a full refund.
