A sweet story has emerged from Rockhampton in Queensland, which involves a herd of chubby wombats (a “wisdom of wombats”, if you prefer) and a couple of determined zoo keepers.
After its temporary closure earlier this year to repair the damages caused by cyclone Marcia, Rockhampton Zoo has been focused on trying to get its animals to bounce back after a few months of no exercise.
Which includes taking its “chubby” wombats for daily walks!
Katie, pictured here with her walker Yvette, goes on a little walk every day to keep fit and help her hips from getting arthritic.
But Katie isn’t the only wombat to get out and about, her wombat friends, Donna, Allan, Esme, Emma, Barbie, Bruce, Fatso, Kiwi, Frank and Wombalina, all participate in a daily exercise routine with involves walking around the zoo grounds.
Have a look at the sweet pics.
Happy Friday!

“Katie is one of the more adventurous wombats. She always covers a lot of distance on her walks,” wrote Rockhampton Zoo.
“During the winter months, the wombats are more active during the day. This gives us an opportunity to offer them added enrichment activities such as going for a walk.”
“Some of the wombats enjoy exploring new places on their walk, while others just want to graze on the different grasses they find.”
