It sounds like it could only be a terrible nightmare. Being chained and locked up in a room of your home for 30 years.
But this was a reality for a 53-year-old Chinese woman, whose husband kept her locked up with a chain and rope, reports The Daily Telegraph.
Long Fen was locked up by her husband, Yin, because the local community – and even Yin himself – were afraid of her violent outbreaks, claiming she would be overcome with fits of rage regularly and hit anyone in sight.
The family believe the 53-year-old was cursed with insanity after thunder struck the community 30 years ago and the health care system in China doesn’t pay for treatment of the mentally ill.
The home Long Fen was released from is in the Lingshanmiao Village, a part of Yanggu country in East China’s Shandong province.
The 53-year-old has been sent to Jinan Psychiatric Hospital for treatment of her mental illness and The Tele report it is likely she will undergo surgery.
