A US police officer has shared this touching (and hilarious) letter that was sent to him by two children he regularly reads to in his neighbourhood.
Officer Anthony Nolan, who injured his knee and was taking some time off work, found the letter, written by eight-year-old Malik and 9-year-old Tasha, taped to his front door with duct tape – along with a few dollars for his usual cup of coffee.
The sweet letter thanked Officer Nolan for being “like a dad”, and begging him to come back and read to them.
“My mom says [you’re] hurt. I’m sad because you can’t read to me,” the letter read.
“I don’t have a dad, only you read to me. I will tell police station boss to not make you work in danger because that’s best for you. I can ask my doctor to make you better, he is good. Can you make me a reading video if you can’t come read?”
“I really miss you, and my sister is doing better [because] of you. Thanks [for] being like a dad for us,” it read.
Talking to WFSB, Officer Nolan revealed that receiving the letter hit him hard.
“It was just odd, you know. Got it, read it, almost started crying,” said Nolan.
“They let me know what it means to them not to see me, which made me feel a lot better. It was like one of those healing moments,” said the Officer, “Even though you’re sick, you feel healed.”
Officer Nolan met Malik and his sister, Tasha, whilst on duty, after he bought them a new book to replace the one that was rained on.
“I told them I got a book. That was similar to the one they have, I didn’t know what kind of book it was,” Nolan said, “It ended up about being about not having parents. One of those ‘gulp’ moments.”
Since posting the letter onto his Facebook, the post has gotten nearly 2,000 likes.
Bravo, Officer Nolan!
