A 96-year-old woman who couldn’t have children has donated her $4 million estate to homeless kids.
Lily Fardell – known in Newcastle as the “Fair Lady of The Hill” – died earlier this year. Having no children of her own to pass her fortune on to, she decided to do her bit to improve the lives of children across the country.
In her final will and testament, Ms Fardell ordered her grand homestead to be sold, along with its contents including hundreds of antiques, and the proceeds donated to St Vincent de Paul’s programs for homeless youth.
Her four-bedroom, three-bathroom home Pacific House, in prestigious Newcastle suburb The Hill sold for $2.35 million in June, and its contents were snapped up for a further $1.65 million.
“She couldn’t have children of her own,” her nephew, Michael Ellis said. “But she loved children and left almost everything she had to a charity which supported them.”
