Checkout operator pays for grieving mum’s groceries

“When it came time to pay for my weekly shop, she informed me that she would be paying. I couldn’t believe it!”

A grieving mother was stunned when a Coles checkout woman paid for her weekly grocery shop after she revealed her partner had recently died.

Zoe Irwin took to the Coles Facebook page to thank the generous employee, known only as Kerri.

She said she had been shopping at Coles at Browns Plains for years and always went through Kerri’s checkout if she was working.

“She is so kind and lovely and we would always have a chat about whatever had been going on, including my partner who had terminal cancer,” Zoe wrote.

Zoe’s partner died earlier this year and on her first venture out to the grocery store, she saw Kerri was working and went through her checkout. She was not expecting what happened next.

“When it came time to pay for my weekly shop she informed me that she would be paying,” Zoe wrote. “I couldn’t believe that someone who only knows me through Coles would do this for my family.

“Thank you Coles for employing this amazing, special lady. And thank you Kerri!”
