A three-year-old girl has been left in a critical condition after police say she was raped and tortured by her mother’s boyfriend in a house in Capalaba, Brisbane.
It’s understood the attack, which reportedly brought senior investigators to tears, took place between 7.30am and 5.30pm on Thursday when the child’s mother was at work.
The girl was taken to Redlands Hospital after her mother arrived home and saw the abuse. She suffered critical internal injuries, bruising, fractures and bite marks.
According to The Courier Mail, hospital staff immediately called police who launched an investigation into the alleged incident.
Neighbours from the quiet street told the paper they were shocked to hear of the sickening attack, but had previously witnessed an altercation spill out onto the street.
“She is a cute little muffin that didn’t deserve this,” one neighbour said.
“The mother obviously cares for the little girl. She looked well cared for, well looked after, beautiful manners. A darling little girl.”
A 25-year-old man has since been charged with a slew of offences including torture, grievous bodily harm, sexual assault, leaving a child under 12 unattended and two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.
He is also charged with breach of a domestic violence order and drug offences.
The little girl remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition. She only recently turned three.
