A 16-month-old baby girl was “bright red” and suffering from heat stroke after her mother left her in a car for almost an hour, on a day when temperatures almost reached 40C.
Police raced more than 30km to Bridgetown, Western Australia on Saturday afternoon after receiving calls from worried passer-byers.
“We took the child out of the car and took her to hospital for immediate medical treatment,” Sergeant Paul Williams said.
“Her whole body was bright red — as if she had been sunburnt.”
“Had it gone on for much longer, there could have been far more serious consequences.”
He said that it will be alleged that the mother parked her car in the main street while she went to work at a local hotel.
