Boy dies inhaling deodorant

A 14-year-old Victorian boy has tragically died after inhaling deodorant in an attempt to get high.

Pheonix Werner was found unresponsive in a house in Geelong on Friday night at about 7.50pm.

Paramedics were called but pronounced him dead at the scene.

A coronial inquest will officially determine the cause of death but police suspect Pheonix died seeking a cheap high by inhaling spray deodorant.

“In my 17 years or so in the police force, I’ve never heard of that before,” sergeant Dan Willsmore said. “There were a number of cans of spray deodorant lying around, in the house, in the street and that was a bit peculiar.

“It just goes to show the dangers of doing anything to the extreme.”

The boy’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to pay for his funeral.
