Mother of missing toddler told family she didn’t want the child, a court has heard

Baden Bond was allegedly last seen over a decade ago and not reported missing until 2016.

A toddler last seen in 2007 and reported missing 10 years later was allegedly found in a urine and faeces-covered cot before he vanished, witnesses told the Supreme Court in Brisbane.

The crown is alleging Baden Bond was murdered by his parents and mother Dina Colleen Bond, 43, was denied bail yesterday after the Justice Sue Brown deemed her too great a risk of interfering with witnesses and not attending court sessions.

The court heard that Ms Bond allegedly told a family member in 2007 that Baden, who vanished 10 years ago, was “a little c –” and refused to let them see him.

Ms Bond also told family members she didn’t want Baden, the court was told.

On a separate occasion, Baden’s father Shane Arthur Simpson, who is also charged with murder, allegedly described the 22-month-old as “evil” to a witness.

Witnesses said Ms Bond’s home was squalid and they had seen Baden sporting injuries, police say.

Baden was last seen in his Woodridge home, south of Brisbane, in March 2007 and his large extended family moved to NSW later that year, but no one reported Baden missing until 2016.

Detective Inspector Damien Hansen said no medical or educational records exist for the child in the last 10 years, and his parents have given conflicting versions of events regarding his whereabouts.

Ms Bond and Mr Simpson moved in the middle of the night in August 2007 to NSW without telling anyone, the court heard.

Prosecutor Sarah Farnden said Ms Bond lost another a three-month-old son, but no charges were laid over his death.

Ms Bond’s counsel argued that Baden’s body has never been found and he may be alive and living with someone else.

Barrister Dennis Kinsella also argued the prosecution’s case was weak and circumstantial and not reporting a missing child did not equate to murder.

Ms Bond’s mother Carol offered to look after her daughter and keep her off drugs if she was released, but Justice Brown denied bail.

Carol Bond attempted to kick a photographer as she left court.
