Police and paramedics responded to a call at a home on Landa Street in Lithgow at 8:50pm last night where they arrived to find an unconscious baby girl.
It was reported to police that she sustained severe injuries when she fell from her cot.
After being treated by paramedics at the scene, she was taken to Lithgow Hospital before being airlifted to Sydney’s Westmead Hospital where she is understood to be undergoing emergency surgery.
Police have said the little girl lives with a carer, who is believed to be her aunt. Her aunt wasn’t at home and it was her partner who called in the incident to police. Both are said to be cooperating with police.
Police have set up a crime scene at the home and are still investigating how the baby sustained her life-threatening injuries.
“Detectives are conducting investigations to establish how the girl sustained her injuries and urge anyone with information to contact police,” a NSW Police spokeswoman said, as reported by the Sydney Morning Herald.
If anyone has any more information, they are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers Australia on 1800 333 000.
