In news that may or may not rock the generational boat, researchers at the University of Detroit in the U.S have exposed, and disbanded, a long-believed stereotype: that Baby Boomers work harder than Generation X and Millennials.
According to the study, and as reported on Science Daily, it’s been said that “Baby Boomers endorse higher levels of work ethic than the younger so-called Generation X (born between 1965 and 1980) and Millennials (born between 1981 and 1999).”
“[Baby Boomers’] work ethic is also associated with greater job satisfaction and performance, conscientiousness, greater commitment to the organization [sic] they belong to and little time for social loafing.”
However, through this research (and perhaps to the disappointment of those born between 1946 and 1960) no differentiation between how hard each generation work exists.
What this means is that Generation Y – the “me, me, me” generation that has been labelled “lazy” up until only recently – are just as hard-working as their generational counterparts.
