This is such a great idea!
All babies born in Scotland from 2017 will be gifted ‘baby boxes’, containing useful items like nappies, clothes and wipes.
The country’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said they’re borrowing the Nordic-style policy from Finland and the box will be a “symbol of a belief in a level playing field” for all children.
“We promised a baby box of all essential items for all newborns,” Sturgeon said. “It’s a policy borrowed from Finland where it’s contributed to the lowest rates of child mortality in the world.”
Finland has been giving out care packages with around 80 useful items to all expectant mothers for 80 years – the boxes have been credited with cutting infant mortality and raising life chances.
We love this idea! Do you think it could be implemented in Australia?
