Cheryl Davies was left shocked and infuriated when her autistic nephew was told to eat outside of the pub during a family lunch at The Ffrith pub in Prestatyn, UK.
Her nephew, who has not been named, would only eat plain cheese pasta or spaghetti hoops from a plastic tub they had brought from home – which The Ffrith pub would not tolerate due to the fear of “contamination”.
Not only that, but Davies was “shocked by [the waitress’] lack of empathy”.
“My nephew has no danger awareness and there was no way we were going to eat in what is practically a car park on busy crossroads,” Davies told the Daily Post.
“Autism is not a visible disability and not many people understand it. There definitely needs to be more awareness in places like restaurants.”
While a spokesperson for the pub’s chain group, Sizzling Pubs, apologised, and we appreciate food hygiene policies, we can’t help but be reminded that kindness and understanding really can go a long way.
