Animals are sacrificed for the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha each year. But on Tuesday, blood from the sacrifices mixed with torrential rains and flooded the streets of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Gruesome photos were shared to social media and a woman told the Guardian she was “speechless” from what she’d witnessed.
“I felt I was walking through a post-apocalyptic neighbourhood. To be honest, I was scared. It was an image of mass violence that shouldn’t ever be experienced,” Atish Saha said.
Luckily for the residents, the flooding subsided after several hours and the streets were back to normal.
Thousands of animals including goats and cows are slaughtered every year in many Muslim countries for the festival, which is also known as the “Sacrifice Feast”.
