Coles has come under increasing pressure from customers over the way it stores its eggs.
It comes after Woolworths announced that they would store eggs on refrigerated shelves to prevent the spread of salmonella.
However, Coles are yet to give the same assurance.
Customers have taken to social media to vent their frustration, with some threatening to boycott the stores until there is action.
Coles responded to some customers via Twitter, writing that they understood their concern but said Food Standards Australia and New Zealand said there was no need to refrigerate hen’s eggs to prevent bacterial growth, as long as their remain intact.
They also tweeted a response to another customer that refrigerating eggs didn’t significantly reduce the chance of salmonella.
