Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt open up about her double mastectomy

Whatever's got to be done to keep the family together, and keep the family together as long as possible is going to be done.

Hollywood superstars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have agreed to a rare, joint interview with the US version of the Today show, in which they discuss Angelina’s decision to undergo a double mastectomy and the removal of her ovaries to reduce her risk of cancer.

“I knew through the surgeries that he was on my side and that this wasn’t something where I was going to feel less of a woman,” Angelina says.

“Because my husband wasn’t going to let that happen.”

The 40-year-old actress has a family history of cancer, and has lost her mother, and her aunt to the disease. So it almost goes without saying that when it came to protecting herself, 51-year-old Brad was behind her the entire way.

“Whatever’s got to be done to keep the family together, and keep the family together as long as possible is going to be done,” said Brad, adding that he has played a supportive role in this process.

“This was her charge, no question. It’s a scary decision. There’s many things that can go wrong and go many different directions.”

The couple are promoting their new movie, By the Sea.
