Taking to the stage to deliver an impassioned speech at the Texas Conference For Women in Houston on Tuesday, Amal revealed her mother is her biggest role model.
“I think growing up my mother was definitely a role model, she was always a working woman and someone who is independent and cared about her career and cared about being independent but also had balance,” the 38-year-old explained of her mum, journalist Baria Alamuddin.

“She never lost her femininity and she believed the balance was important and that is something that stuck with me.”
Amal, who wed actor George Clooney in Italy in 2014, also addressed women’s rights.
“The fight for women’s rights is a fight for justice. If we are united and we keep up the fight for each other’s rights, I believe there is no limit to what we can do,” she urged.
“As women, there is a bond that we all share. It’s a bond of shared experience. Experiences that only women go through and struggles that only women face.”
“The worst thing that we can do as women is not stand up for each other. And this is something that we can practice every day no matter where we are or what we do,” she mused.
The lawyer went on to discuss her important work bringing ISIS to justice. Her client Nadia Murad was captured by the terrorist group and subjected to horrendous sex abuse when she was just 19.
“I’m ashamed as a woman that girls like Nadia can today have their bodies sold and used as battlefields, and I’m ashamed as a woman that we ignore their cries for help,” Amal said.
Despite the long road ahead for the lawyer and Nadia, Amal capped off her stirring speech on a positive note.
“If we keep up the fight for women’s rights, I believe there is nothing we can’t do.”
