After being sent to candy heaven in 2004 Allen’s Jelly Tots and Tangy Tots are back by popular demand.
A successful social media campaign on Facebook has been behind the revival by Australia’s largest confectionery manufacturer and this time the lollies will be on shelves with no artificial colours and with portion advice on packs.
The administrators of the Facebook group, Bring BACK Allens Jelly Tots – Tiny Tots, which boasts more than 350 fans, seem elated at the news with the latest post reading:
We did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Although they may not be exactly like the old ones, we did it!! I want to thank all the Jelly Tots lovers out there for making this happen! YOU ALL ROCK!! And a big THANK YOU to Allen’s Lollies
In a statement Allen’s says that the changes made to the sweet treats are part of the brand’s effort to help consumers better manage their energy intake and understand the ingredients in their food.
“Parents are looking for more natural ingredients and they are looking for labels that they can understand,” says practising dietitian and Allen’s spokeswoman Nicole Senior.
Ms Senior said balance and moderation were key for a healthy lifestyle, and having portion guidance on pack was a helpful tool for parents.
“Treats are OK, in moderation. It’s important to understand portions, so that you can make good decisions when it comes to the foods you eat,” she explained.
The move to bring back a family favourite is yet another win for social media sweet tooth campaigners. Earlier this month Sydney man Jesse James McElroy petitioned for Streets to release Golden Gaytime in a tub form.
On his Golden Gaytime Icecream Project Facebook page – which dons the slogan “It’s hard to have a Gaytime on your own – Jesse announced his sweet victory with a post on August 2 which read:
“Everybody shut the f__k up… We did it… Well actually I did most of it… After writing my letter… THEY RELEASED IT (only in 1.25 litre… I guess that will have to do… For now)”
The post garnered more than 54,000 likes.
Let’s see if people power can bring back other vintage favourites like Spearmint Leaves and Polly Waffles, shall we?
ALLEN’S new Jelly Tots and Tangy Tots will be in stores in Australia from August 2015.
