A Melbourne Airport security officer has been disciplined after subjecting Foreign Minister Julie Bishop to a ‘non-random’ body scan.
The Sydney Morning Herald says the incident occurred in September, when Ms Bishop passed through Melbourne airport on her way to New York for a United Nations leader’s summit.
The Herald says the security officer was ‘stood down from work’ for a time but has now returned to her post.
She scanned Ms Bishop in a way that was ‘not random … and may well have been prompted by a co-worker who recognised the Foreign Minister.’
A spokesman for Ms Bishop told the Herald that the Foreign Minister had made no “official complaint” about the incident.
“The Foreign Minister passes through hundreds of airport security checkpoints each year and is more than happy to be treated on the same basis as other travellers,” the spokeswoman said.
