Adam Goodes approached to run as Labor candidate

The champion footballer is in Labor’s sights

Champion footballer Adam Goodes is in Labor’s sights as a potential candidate ahead of next year’s federal election.

Northern Territory Labor Senator and Olympic gold medallist Nova Peris encouraged Goodes to consider a career in politics during a meeting earlier in the year, SMH reports.

However, his manager, Lucy Mills, has said she is “not aware” of any approach by Labor or about any plans for Goodes to go into politics.

He told NITV before his retirement this year he was “definitely not interested in party politics, definitely not interested in stepping into that arena”.

And when asked in September about a future in politics, Goodes told the Herald Sun he didn’t identify with any particular party and vaguely stated he hoped his career highlight was “yet to come”.

Time will tell!
