50 people have been killed at a gay nightclub in Orlando, America – the deadliest terror attack since 911.
Around 2am on Sunday, gunman Omar Mateen, 29, from Florida carried an assault rifle and pistol into the packed Pulse nightclub and began shooting, leaving 50 people dead and at least 53 injured.
After a standoff of close to three hours, police crashed into the building and killed Mateen.
It has been reported that Mateen called 911 to swear allegiance to an Islamic State leader shortly before he carried out the attack.
Police have labeled him “organized” and “well-prepared” and they’re yet to find any accomplices.
President Barack Obama has spoken of the attack saying, “We know enough to say this was an act of terror and an act of hate.”
“This is an especially heartbreaking day for our friends who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.”
