Does a pregnancy even count until you get the first baby bump picture on social media?
Turia Pitt announced she was pregnant and, one long month later, we’ve finally gotten a glimpse of the bun in the oven.
The tri-athlete is currently embarking on an “epic safari” through Namibia with partner Michael, because of course they are, and the bump made its first appearance.
The 29-year-old captioned the pic, “Hot, sweaty and just a little bit in love with this Namibian desert.”
The pair went offline for the last two weeks, taking time to “switch off and enjoy the company of each other, and I suppose, a lion or two as well”.
Turia, who suffered burns to 65% of her body during an ultra-marathon in September 2011, revealed on 60 Minutes she discovered she was expecting right before she was due to do a charity trek of Mount Everest on behalf of Interplast.
“Can I just say I’m pregnant? We’re having a baby,” Turia beamed to reporter Allison Langdon.
“We’re stoked we couldn’t be happier,” Michael said. “Turia told me she’s the happiest she’s ever been.”
Speaking to Australian Women’s Weekly, Turia revealed having children had always been on the cards.
“One of the first questions I asked was if I would still be able to have children,” Turia said.
“I always get asked if I can have children. People assume that I cannot because I have been burned but the doctors never said, ‘You’re going to struggle’, never said I had to adjust my expectations. On the inside, everything is fine.”
Turia, who is now into the second trimester of her pregnancy, says that her term is going smoothly with fiancé Michael by her side.
“In many ways, that was one of the main things that helped me keep going during the recovery and helped me find the will to keep going.
“Having Michael there beside me was important but so was the thought we could have children. That thought gave me hope that one day Michael and I would have a family.”
We can’t wait to see more pics of our new favourite family.
