Dubbed โ€œthe hospital ward killerโ€, the woman is thought to have committed over a dozen murders while employed as a nurse in the intensive care and anesthesia wards of a hospital in the seaside town of Piombino, Tuscany.

Italyโ€™s para-military police, the Carabinieri, are believed to have made the arrest on Wednesday.

A police statement on Thursday said that the nurseโ€™s alleged victims had โ€œvarious pathologiesโ€ but no other details were given, reports Reuters.

This case follows the 2014 arrest of Italian nurse Daniela Poggiali, 41, who was suspected of killing 38 patients.

Italian officials claimed Poggialiโ€™s crimes were driven by the โ€˜challengeโ€™ and โ€˜pleasureโ€™ she derived from murdering people in her care whom she deemed annoying or pushy.
