When Turia Pitt visited Laos in 2014, she met a little boy who changed her life.
As we know, incredibly brave Turia suffered burns to 65% of her body in a horrific bush fire in 2011,
Seng, then aged 18 months, had overturned a rice cooker full of boiling water onto his head.
“Little Seng was one of the patients who I met that stuck with me,” says Turia.
“He was initially treated by a local surgeon who had trained beside surgical teams from Interplast, an Australian organisation that helps bring medical expertise to developing countries.
“If not for Interplast, Seng would have been blind. It really hit home to me how lucky I was to get the treatment I did.”
Seng, now nearly five, has just had his regular check-up with Interplast. “He gave us a little thumbs up and made the ‘I love you’ sign,” says Turia.
The little boy is one of the reasons Turia is about to lead a trek to Base Camp at Mt Everest in the Himalayas.
In partnership with The Australian Women’s Weekly, Turia is raising funds for Interplast by leading 30 fundraisers to Base Camp at 5000m elevation. You can help by donating funds to support their climb. Go to turiaseveresttrek.gofundraise.com.au/page/TuriaPitt2017.
