Grant Hackett has been taken into custody on the Gold Coast.
No official word over why he’s been arrested but his father Nev said the 36-year-old had been detained over “mental health issues” but refused to comment further, the Courier Mail reports.
7 News released footage of the Olympic gold medallist being driven to the Southport police watchhouse in handcuffs.
Police are believed to have been called to Hackett’s family home at Mermaid Waters following reports of a disturbance.
The Courier Mail reports officers found him asleep when they arrived.
Grant’s struggles have long been documented. In 2011, the swimmer trashed his Melbourne home after a fight with his now ex-wife, Candice Alley. Concern was also raised when he was spotted wandering through Melbourne’s Crown Casino half-naked, looking for his son.
In 2014, the former Olympian admitted abusing prescription drugs and checked into a US rehab facility to seek help.
Most recently, Grant was questioned by police in Melbourne following an on-flight altercation where he allegedly groped a male passenger’s nipple.
More as we get it.
